URBAN FARMS

We grow healthy food to fill gaps in local production.

By modeling season extension technology and regenerative practices, we serve as a resource and inspiration for beginning farmers, and for growers interested in scaling up sustainably or transitioning to healthy food production.

Each year, AmeriCorps volunteers join our farm team for an immersive educational experience in sustainable agriculture, from market garden to midscale farm. Many former AmeriCorps have gone on to pursue sustainable agriculture in subsequent endeavors, including two of our current farm managers!

HOW WE FARM

Grow Ohio Valley practices natural and organic farming methods, with an emphasis on stewardship of living soil ecology. Through adaptive reuse, GrowOV has turned vacant urban land into diverse, productive farms through regenerative agricultural practices, including mulching, no- and low-till farming, and application of non-abrasive fertilizer and soil inoculants.

WHAT WE GROW

Across our urban and rural farm sites, we produce diverse naturally-grown produce, eggs and meat from pastured chickens, and small-scale pork. Our products are for sale year-round at the Public Market, and through a CSA subscription July - October.

URBAN FARM SITES

Within Wheeling’s urban core, GrowOV practices intensive sustainable farming on two urban plots,
including the use of two high tunnel greenhouses, plus a small-scale heirloom apple orchard.
